Baker McKenzie strengthens Geneva tax team with two new Counsels

Baker McKenzie has strengthened its tax practice in Switzerland by welcoming Sylvain Godinet and Raphaël Matthys as Counsels to its Geneva office. The two legal professionals bring a combined 35 years of experience in international tax advisory, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), corporate reorganisations, and tax accounting.

The expansion reflects Baker McKenzie’s commitment to navigating the complexities of international tax regulations and providing robust client support. Sylvain Godinet, who joined in November 2024, has over two decades of expertise, including leadership roles in multinational corporations and teaching tax law at a Swiss university. Raphaël Matthys, who came aboard in January 2025, brings nearly 15 years of experience, particularly in international tax structuring and leading major corporate transactions.

Kilian Perroulaz, Head of the Swiss Tax Practice, commented on the appointments: “I am delighted to welcome Sylvain and Raphaël to our Geneva office, where their expertise will enhance our support for national and international clients in tax and transactional matters.”

Marnin Michaels, Co-Head of the EMEA Tax Practice, added: “This expansion reinforces our ability to address global tax and wealth management challenges, bolstering our position as a leading firm in the Swiss market.”
