FTX Crypto Exchange launched an European unit
MLL advised FTX Crypto Exchange, a global cryptocurrency exchange, on the establishment and launch of FTX Europe. The company is planning a global expansion by extending its presence into Europe and the Middle East.
FTX Europe will start offering FTX’s products and services to European clients via a licensed investment firm with passportable licenses across the European economic area. Users in these regions will be able to trade a variety of cryptocurrency products powered by FTX’s trading technology.
The new division is based in Switzerland, with an additional base in Cyprus. FTX Europe will seemingly be the crypto exchange’s European equivalent of FTX.US, which was launched to American users in 2020 and now boasts an $8 billion valuation.
The legal team was led by Dr. Kilian Schärli (partner and co-head of MLL’s blockchain industry group, pictured) and included partners Sergio Bortolani and Samuel Ljubicic. The team was also composed by Thomas Nabholz (partner, tax), Reto Luthiger (counsel), Andrea Trost (senior associate). Both associates Andrea Viest and Loredana Hartmann together with Jonas Schütte (junior associate) were part of it.
