Italy’s UniCredit bank joins forces with firms NCTM and La Scala to form the banking boutique UniQLegal

The legal department of the UniCredit Group, led by Gianpaolo Alessandro (pictured), has partnered with the law firms NCTM  La Scala to create UniQLegal, an initiative that was created to meet specific banking industry legal services needs. In particular, the project will center on managing bank litigation and giving legal advice. The ultimate aim for UniQLegal is to become a point of reference for banking law in Italy.

The partnership will make it possible to share the experience and management technologies of the partner studios with the skills and processes of the UniCredit legal department, creating a center of excellence characterized by specialist know-how, investment capacity, technological innovation, new organizational and production logics and economies of scale that will lead to a new standard in the supply of specialized legal services.

“UniQLegal,” reads a statement released by the bank, “will be based on the capitalization of knowledge and the dynamism of its professionals: young, curious, supported by the experience and strategic vision of the shareholders.”

The new “firm” is unusual for Italy, with on one hand, two large law firms, known for their innovation and organizational skills and, on the other, one of the largest Italian banks. We’ll be watching to see how it works out.
