Legalcommunity Roundtable explores In-House Counsel role in Sustainability 

Last night, the city of Zurich played host to the 6th edition of the Legalcommunity Awards Switzerland. The prestigious event saw the recognition and celebration of both in-house counsel and private practice lawyers for their contributions to the legal industry. 

Over 150 distinguished guests from the Swiss legal community were in attendance to celebrate the honorees of the night. The event provided a valuable opportunity for legal professionals to network, connect, and share ideas on the latest developments in the legal landscape. 

The evening started off with welcome cocktails followed by a short introduction by Aldo Scaringella, Managing Director LC Publishing Group and Iberian Legal Group (Iberian Lawyer, The Latin American Lawyer). Followed by the 30 minute roundtable discussion that explored the role of in-house counsel in the sustainability and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) space. The roundtable featured four expert speakers who provided insights and shared their experiences. Claudio Elia, Legal Director, STMicroelectronics Country Representative, Switzerland, ACC Europe, Christian Haitz, General Counsel Corporate and Compliance, gategroup Country Representative, Switzerland, ACC Europe, Barbara Levi, Group General Counsel & Member of the Group Executive Board, UBS and Federico Piccaluga, Group General Counsel, Duferco Country Representative, Switzerland, ACC Europe and was moderated by Suzan Taha, Journalist LegalcommunityCH and LegalcommunityMENA. 

The discussion focused on the importance of sustainability and ESG issues and how they are shaping the legal profession. The speakers discussed how in-house counsels can contribute to their organizations’ sustainability goals by creating and implementing effective strategies and policies. 

Moreover, the panelists emphasized that the critical skills for success in the future will be agility, adaptability, and the ability to navigate complex and dynamic regulatory frameworks. 

The roundtable provided a unique opportunity for participants to gain valuable insights and learn from the experiences of their peers. The speakers shared their expertise and provided valuable guidance on how legal professionals can adapt to the evolving landscape and play an essential role in driving sustainable change.
