Legalcommunity Week 2023: Diary of Second Day

The Legalcommunity Week is the event organized by LC Publishing Group, which has been bringing together the Italian and international legal community in Milan since 2017. The seventh edition, taking place from June 12th to June 16th, 2023, will be held primarily at Milan’s Principe di Savoia hotel, hosting over 20 conferences, roundtable discussions, and forums on the hottest topics in the legal profession today. Institutional events will be followed by daily networking and entertainment opportunities throughout the city, including cocktail receptions hosted by law firms for Week participants, the non-competitive morning run called Run The Law along the Naviglio Grande, and Rock The Law, a music contest where bands comprised of lawyers and professionals perform on the prestigious stage at Fabrique.

The culmination of the Legalcommunity Week is the Legalcommunity Corporate Awards, a gala evening where outstanding business law firms and professionals are recognized and honored for their achievements in the preceding 12 months.

SECOND DAY – Tuesday, June 13th, 2023

The second day of Legalcommunity Week 2023 started at 8 o’clock in Piazza Belgioioso, the location of Gianni & Origoni law firm. The traditional Breakfast on Finance was enlivened this year by a dialogue between Silvia Maria Rovere, President of Poste Italiane, and Francesco Gianni, Founding Partner of Gianni & Origoni, moderated by Nicola Di Molfetta, Editor-in-Chief of Legalcommunity and Financecommunity.

After breakfast, the gathering continued at the Principe di Savoia hotel for the second conference of Week 2023, dedicated to the Middle East and North African market: “Investments and infrastructures in the Mena region.” The conference, introduced by greetings from Aldo Scaringella, CEO of LC Publishing Group, began with a dialogue between Ziad Bahaa-Eldin, Managing Partner of Bahaa-Ledin Law Office in cooperation with BonelliErede, and Fabrizio Pagani, Senior Advisor at Vitale & Co, professor at SciencesPo, and former sherpa during the G20, on the topic “Private capital and infrastructures in Africa.” The session was moderated by Suzan Taha, journalist at LegalcommunityMena.

After a coffee break, the second segment of the conference took place, consisting of the roundtable discussion “UAE and the new corporate income tax.” Suzan Taha moderated the panel, which included Mohamed Elmogy, Regional Lead Counsel Middle East and North East Africa at Siemens Energy; Reham Naeem, Head of Legal Gulf Countries at Novartis; Francesco Parlatore, Managing Associate at BonelliErede; and Mahmoud Shaarawy, Chief Legal & Compliance Officer at HSA Group.

After lunch, two roundtable discussions were held from 2:00pm, focusing on two of the hottest topics in recent months, both crucial for those following innovative trends in the legal market.

The first topic was third-party funding, discussed in the panel titled “Legal innovation: unlocking new opportunities with litigation funding in Italy.” Moderated by Albert Henke, Associate Professor of Civil Procedural Law at the University of Milan and Scientific Coordinator of the Deutradis Research Center, the panel featured Erik Bomans, CEO of Deminor; Alice Flacco, General Counsel of Microport Scientific Corporation; Silvia Lain, Owner and CEO of ABF Elettronica; Rinaldo Sali, Deputy General Director of the Arbitration Chamber of Milan; and Paul Jeroen van de Grampel, Global Co-Head of the Litigation Risk Group at AON.

The other topic, of course, was “The artificial intelligence revolution: great opportunities and relevant risks.” Introduced by the keynote speech of Fatima Correia Da Silva, Chief Compliance Officer and Head of Legal and Data Protection Officer at Critical Techworks, the roundtable discussion included Claudia Trivillino, Public Policy Manager at Meta; Emanuela Franco, General Counsel at Italdesign – Giugiaro; Eugenio Fusco, Deputy Prosecutor at the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Milan; Michela Massimi, Senior Official at the Italian Data Protection Authority; Giuliano Noci, Full Professor of Strategy and Marketing and Scientific Director of the Metaverse Marketing Lab at the Politecnico di Milano; and Laura Pavese, Senior Litigation Manager at Hewlett Packard Enterprise. The panel was moderated by Andrea Puccio, Founding Partner of Puccio penalisti associati.

The last engagement of the day was focused on “New luxury – exegesis of contemporary lifestyle.” Luca Arnaboldi, Managing Partner of Carnelutti Law Firm, moderated a panel consisting of Sabina Belli from Pomellato, actress and entrepreneur Cristiana Capotondi, Antonia Giacinta from Antonia Milano, Stefania Lazzaroni from Fondazione Altagamma, Lorenza Luti from Kartell, and Federica Polinori from The Estée Lauder Companies.

The concluding cocktail of the second day of Week 2023 took place in Piazza Meda, at Baker McKenzie’s office. The theme of diversity that inspired its organization was explicit in the title: “Women leadership: the in-house cocktail.”
