Novartis appoint Alejandro Bes to global head of legal Immunology

Novartis AG, the Swiss multinational pharmaceutical corporation based in Basel, has appointed Alejandro Bes (pictured) as its global head of legal for the Immunology business unit. The lawyer steps into the role as his predecessor, Melanie Martin, takes up the position of lead legal counsel, business development and licensing at Novartis in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Alejandro Bes began his legal career in Spain, working at prestigious firms such as Freshfields. He was previously corporate legal counsel for Italy, Spain and Portugal at Apple. This is the third new role for Bes at Novartis in Basel. He joined the company as global head of legal digital in 2021, before being appointed global head of legal, customer engagement, platforms data, in 2022.

In a statement Mr Bes confirmed: “I am happy to share that I am starting a new position as Global Legal Head – Immunology at Novartis! Very excited about the challenge and really looking forward to seeing what lays ahead on the road.”

Consistently ranked in the global top five, Novartis is one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world and was the fourth largest by revenue in 2022.
