World Bank’s Sandie Okoro joins Standard Chartered as general counsel

Standard Chartered has hired the World Bank’s legal leader Sandie Okoro (pictured) as its next general counsel, replacing David Fein who retired from the role at the end of 2021.  Following his retirement, Fein joined Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison’s London office as special counsel in the firm’s litigation department.

Okoro will begin her term in April after five years at the World Bank, where she serves as group general counsel, senior vice president and vice president for compliance. She will report directly to Standard Chartered’s group CEO Bill Winters in the company’s London headquarters.

Okoro joined the World Bank in 2017 from HSBC, where she served as HSBC’s global asset management division between 2014 and 2017. Before that, she spent almost seven years as global general counsel at Barings.

Okoro started her legal career as a graduate trainee at Coopers and Lybrand, followed by two years as a trainee solicitor at Stoneham Langton and Passmore. She later joined Schoders investment company for 16 years, where she served as head of legal for corporate services.
