Baker McKenzie with Seamless Therapeutics on Seed Financing

Seamless Therapeutics, a German biotechnology firm, has successfully concluded a USD12.5 million Seed Financing, a university carve-out including equity financing, in-licensing of an innovative patent portfolio from Technische Universität Dresden and hiring of key personnel. Baker McKenzie provided legal and transactional IP advice to Seamless Therapeutics on the financing and in-licensing aspects of the transaction.

The funds raised will support Seamless Therapeutics’s designer recombinases, which are expected to revolutionize gene editing and offer a safe and precise way of restoring health to patients with severe conditions.

The financing round was co-led by Wellington Partners and Forbion, both life sciences investors, and includes non-dilutive financing from BMBF GO-Bio, a prestigious German government initiative that supports innovative startups in the life sciences sector.

The legal team was led by Julia Braun (corporate/m&a, partner, Munich, pictured) and further included Corporate/M&A team members Julia Rossié (associate, Munich), Anna Dzik (associate, Munich). Employment team members Matthias Köhler (partner, Berlin), Harasch Yakubi (associate, Berlin), Kerstin Schmiedel (associate, Berlin). For the transactional IP team Julia Schieber (partner, Zurich), Tiziana Hongler (associate, Zurich) and for Antitrust & Competition Christian Burholt (partner, Berlin).
