Bär & Karrer successfully assisted the current administration of the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) in the restitution of more than CHF 36 million in the course of various Swiss criminal proceedings opened in connection with CONMEBOL’s former president, Nicolas Leoz and its former secretary general, Eduardo Deluca.
The funds were unlawfully acquired to the prejudice of CONMEBOL and held on Swiss bank accounts. The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland (OAG) secured the forfeiture of the diverted amounts and agreed to return all the funds identified on Swiss bank accounts to their legitimate holder, CONMEBOL.
CONMEBOL was represented in these proceedings by Bär & Karrer. The team included Saverio Lembo (pictured), Anne Valérie Julen Berthod and Abdul Carrupt (all White Collar Crime/ Internal Investigation/ Litigation).
