Kellerhals Carrard advises Swiss Post on 75 percent stake in Axsana

Swiss Post has acquisted a majority stake in Axsana and paves the way for a uniform technical infrastructure for electronic patient records. The company is convinced that the electronic patient dossier is at the heart of a digitalised Swiss healthcare system. For this reason and together with other parties, Swiss Post wants to continue to play a leading role in the area of electronic patient dossiers in the future. That is why it has acquired a 75 percent stake in Axsana as of 30 September 2022. By joining forces with the operating company for the electronic patient dossier, processes and technology can be standardised. This creates more scope for investment in the future of the EPD and gives a boost to digitalisation in the Swiss healthcare system.

Swiss Post is continuously developing this further in order to be prepared for future use cases. These include, for example, the evaccination dossier, eMedication, which gives users an overview of their current medication, and the connection of the EPD to mobile devices such as smartphones. Service providers such as doctors and hospitals and the population in Switzerland should benefit equally from the new application possibilities.

Kellerhals Carrard has advised Swiss Post on this transaction. The team was co-lead by Thomas Bähler (partner, pictured) and partner Michèle Remund, counsel Kathrin Enderli, Lukas Dellenbach, Daniel Emch (competition law), Philippe Frésard (notarial implementation).
